If you are interested in pursuing a digital project, there are many resources on campus to support you in your work – and many people in the Libraries and DLAC available to help you when you need it!
Audio & Video Editing
Audio and video editing equipment is available for check-out in Burling Library, through the Digital Studio:
- Recording studios, handheld microphones, cameras, and camcorders for podcasts/interviews available for checkout
- Blue Yeti microphones and sound-dampening material in recording studios for better audio quality
Audio and video editing software:
- Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Premiere, InDesign, etc.) is available on the computers in the Burling Media Room.
- Audacity is a free and easy tool for working with audio content
- WeVideo for entry-level video editing, accessible from the browser and saved to the cloud, complete with stock footage and audio licensed by Grinnell College
- Email the Digital Liberal Arts Collaborative (DLAC) at dlac@grinnell.edu to request an account. You must request an account and set up your own password – you cannot log into Grinnell’s instance of WeVideo with Grinnell’s Microsoft account single sign-on.
Website & Webpage Applications
Sites@Grinnell allows all Grinnell College community members to host their own domains and websites, for free.
- Build out a page on this WordPress class website, or sign up for a domain and request a website using this form.
- If building your own site, you can explore a variety of web content management systems, including WordPress (for flexible websites with a variety of themes and layouts) and Omeka (for digital exhibits).
StoryMaps is a story authoring web-based application on the ArcGIS platform that allows you to build a dynamic multimedia “story” or webpage. The platform integrates well with ArcGIS Online maps.
- To access StoryMaps, navigate to https://grinnell.maps.arcgis.com/home/index.html, click the blue Grinnell College button, and then log in with your Grinnell username and password. From there, you should be able to click the options menu button next to your username to find and click the StoryMaps application (see image below for reference).

- StoryMaps: “The Sinking City” (course project), “Leo Lee Yitt” (summer MAP project), “Leo Quie (Lew Hong Quon)” (summer MAP project)
